So, I made P=pomegranate juice and C=cough syrup
C = (P/2)*2.75
so P + (P/2)*2.75= 26 ounces

Well, your first mistake was confusing the "greater than" with multiplication.
If something is 2.75 oz greater than something else, we start with the something else and ADD 2.75 oz.
So, your first equation should read:
C = (P/2) + 2.75
and
P + C = 26 so….
P + (P/2) + 2.75 = 26 (Now solve using inverse operations and simplifying)
(3P/2) + 2.75 = 26 (Simplify: P + P/2 is one and a half P, or 3P/2)
(3P/2) = 23.25 (Subtract 2.75 from both sides.)
3P = 46.5 (Multiply by 2 on both sides to clear the fraction)
P = 15.5 (Divide both sides by 3)
Thus, C = (15.5/2) + 2.75
C = 7.75 + 2.75
C = 10.5
